Bright Indirect Light

The Translation: A spot in your house that gets lots of natural sunlight, but where the sun’s actual harsh rays never physically touch the plant’s leaves.

Use It In a Sentence: “I moved my fern a few feet back from the south-facing window so it gets bright indirect light instead of getting scorched.”

Why You Care: This is the most confusing instruction on every single plant care tag. Direct sun acts like a magnifying glass and will literally sunburn and crisp up tropical plant leaves. “Bright indirect” usually means placing the plant right next to an east-facing window, or pulling it a few feet away from a harsh south or west-facing window.
